Crewing On "Sea Hawk"

Opportunities to crew on a yacht.

SEA HAWK RACING is our competitive ocean racing yacht team sailing at Cronulla almost every Saturday with her crew of 10 to 15 sailors. Although Sea Hawk is a family owned and managed yacht, we take our social racing seriously, but importantly maintain a strong focus on enjoyment, camaraderie and safety.

SEA HAWK RACING is a racing member of both Cronulla Sailing Club and Royal Motor Yacht Club (RMYC) Port Hacking, which currently sports the largest regularly racing offshore yacht fleet in Sydney.

Sea Hawk is a Farr 44 IMS yacht, custom built in 1992 for a Japanese telecom, designed by Bruce Farr in America , and built by Ian Franklin in New Zealand . She was designed with strength in mind to contest deep water races as far a field as New Zealand , and the Kenwood Cup in Hawaii . She loves the deep water, and can be a handful around the cans. Sea Hawk now calls Gunnamatta Bay , on Sydney 's Port Hacking River , home.

SEA HAWK RACING has a data base of both very regular and casual crew members. The busy program means we are constantly trying to find crew to race in both short and long haul races.

Regular Club yacht racing in Port Hacking can be anything from around the cans in Cronulla's Bate Bay , or up Sydney 's picturesque coastline to Botany Bay or Wedding Cake Island and back, or further a field to Wollongong in the south or Broken Bay in the north. Weekend races with a sleep over on the Harbour at the Cruising Yacht Club (CYC) of Australia are popular part of the regular yacht racing program.

SEA HAWK RACING also participates in larger off shore regattas, having completed ocean races from Port Hacking to Bateman's Bay and Newcastle , and for the past two years participated in the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour yacht race.

SEA HAWK RACING welcomes anybody to try sailing, preferable individuals with yacht or dinghy sailing experience. Positions for both men and women are available, generally youths would be 17 years and over.

Very motivated non-sailors can apply, for example, surfers make exceptional sailors, we love the ocean, both disciplines are in tune with the weather conditions and respect and understand the ocean's many moods.

Yacht crewing is inexpensive, SEA HAWK RACING asks a small gear maintenance donation per race, and regular crew must become a crew member of either Cronulla Sailing Club or Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking and Yachting Australia.

Sea Hawk carries Yachting Australia safety equipment to Category 2,3,4 or 7 as appropriate, Crew need to supply their own gloves, footwear, and wet weather gear. We need crew who must be reasonably agile and healthy, must be able to swim, and not be afraid to get wet.

Crew members are expected to provide their own water and lunch. Crew may bring a beer or similar for after the race. Sea Hawk is a dry boat during the race, meaning no alcohol is consumed whiles racing.
